Jessica Eckhoff, MSN, PMHNP-BC

Jessica Eckhoff is the owner and psychiatric professional at Sage Mental Health. She earned her Master’s of Science in Nursing with a concentration in psychiatry and mental health from Eastern Kentucky University. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing from University of Louisville. She also has a bachelor’s degree in political science from The Ohio State University with an emphasis in foreign policy. These days, she utilizes both her nursing background as well as her foreign policy knowledge teaching Global Health and Health Disparities through the University of Louisville School of Nursing. She is a part-time instructor in the RN to BSN program and she is also working on earning her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) and plans to finish in 2026.

Most of her nursing career was in the intensive care units at University of Louisville Hospital. She specialized in trauma care there. Jessica became interested in psychiatry around 10 years ago when UL was the only hospital in the region that provided care for the indigent and homeless. She noticed a startling shortage of psychiatric care for homeless and under-served populations and decided to switch gears from critical care to psychiatric nursing.

Jessica was the psychiatry provider to all female state-level felons in the Kentucky Department of Corrections. She was proud and honored to provide care to a marginalized population of both female and LGBTQ, including trans-gender inmates. Sage offers non-judgmental psychiatric care for LGBTQ and kink patients.

She is an advocate for mental health awareness and her training and past experience work together to offer a perspective on mental health in the justice system. WAVE3 Story
